Some products evoke a sense of nostalgia that we’re happy to leave in the past. Think of quirky dishes like Lime Cottage Cheese Jello Salad with Sour Cream Chili Sauce topped with shrimp, a 1970s classic that may still have its devotees. Or the divisive Pineapple-and-Mayo sandwich. It’s understandable why not every vintage recipe gets passed down to the next generation.
However, there are certain recipes, brands, and limited-time offerings that disappear without a trace despite being beloved by many. Take, for instance, the Chicken Salad Sandwich from Chick-fil-A or the Tomato Soup Cake—items we hope will return to the market. One such disappearance was Slice.
If you recall, Slice, a PepsiCo product introduced in 1984, had a catchy tagline: “We got the juice!” This soda, made with real fruit juice, quickly gained popularity in the ’80s beverage scene. Initially created to compete with Sprite, with its original lemon-lime flavor, Slice expanded its range and captured the hearts of consumers. Boasting ten percent real juice, it was seen as a healthier alternative to other sodas. However, in the 2000s, Slice vanished from shelves.
But now, Slice is back—and it’s been given a healthy makeover.
In a recent press release, Suja Life, the new owners of Slice, announced the return of the soda in select stores, now enhanced with prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics. This updated formula not only offers functional benefits but remains fizzy and delicious. Moreover, each can contains just five grams of sugar, derived from an organic stevia-and-cane sugar blend.
The relaunch of Slice, now known as Slice 2.0, includes flavors like Orange, Lemon Lime, Classic Cola, and Grapefruit Spritz, available at select retail chains. Target stores have an exclusive launch of Slice Strawberry, while Slice Grape can be found at all Albertson’s locations.
Maria Stipp, CEO of Suja Life, expressed excitement about bringing back Slice with a modern twist and a focus on health. Stipp stated, “Our mission at Suja Life is to revolutionize America’s health through what we drink. While not everyone is opting for wellness shots, soda remains a staple in many American households. By enhancing this everyday beverage with health benefits, we aim to positively impact the well-being of our consumers.”
Slice retails for $2.49 per 12-oz. can, with 12-packs available on the brand’s website for $35.99. Recent Costco shoppers in the Southeast have spotted an eight-pack for just $12.99.
Fans have welcomed Slice’s return, noting that it tastes just as they remember. Comments like “Better than Squirt Soda” and “True nostalgia in a can” highlight the excitement surrounding Slice’s revival. Whether reminiscing
