Exciting News: Vikings Bring In Promising New Talent with Signing of Aaron Jones

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have secured a new addition to their roster with the signing of running back Aaron Jones to a two-year, $20 million contract. This deal not only keeps the talented player from entering free agency but also strengthens the Vikings’ lineup with a proven veteran who previously shined with a rival team.

Jones, represented by agent Drew Rosenhaus, is guaranteed $13 million in this agreement. The 30-year-old athlete, who spent seven successful seasons with the Green Bay Packers since being drafted in 2017, had a standout year with the Vikings in 2024, achieving career highs in rushing attempts and yards.

After joining the team on a one-year, $7 million contract following his release by the Packers, Jones quickly made an impact, becoming only the third rusher in franchise history to reach 1,000 rushing yards in his debut season. Known for his durability and reliability, Jones played in every game, earning recognition with the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award and the team’s Salute to Service Award.

Ranked sixth all-time among NFL running backs with over 1,000 carries, Jones has an impressive average of 4.9 yards per rush. His presence improved the Vikings’ ground game significantly, moving the team from 29th to a tie for 19th in rushing yards within just one season.

Looking ahead, the Vikings will focus on solidifying their quarterback position, with options including J.J. McCarthy and potentially a veteran player to support him. Additionally, the team aims to enhance the roster in key areas such as guard, defensive tackle, and cornerback during the upcoming free agent negotiation period.
