Excited to announce legendary commentator for the opening day game!

BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) — Joe Buck is set to make his highly anticipated return to the national baseball broadcasting scene on opening day. The renowned announcer will be taking the reins in the booth for ESPN as they bring you the action-packed matchup between the New York Yankees and the Milwaukee Brewers on March 27 at 3 p.m. EST.

Having held the esteemed position of lead MLB announcer for Fox Sports from 1996 until 2021, Buck has an impressive resume that includes calling a whopping 24 World Series games. Following his move to ESPN in 2022 to cover “Monday Night Football,” fans are eagerly awaiting his dynamic commentary during this special one-off assignment.

Joining Buck in the booth will be YES Network analyst Joe Girardi and Brewers analyst Bill Schroeder. Buck expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming broadcast, stating, “Opening Day has always held a special place on the sports calendar and I am thrilled to be a part of it once again. When ESPN presented me with this exciting opportunity to kick off the season, it was an immediate ‘yes’ from me. I have great respect for Joe and Bill, and I am confident they will bring their expertise to the telecast while I look forward to contributing in any way I can.”

Buck’s last national baseball broadcast took place on November 2, 2021, when he covered Game 6 of the World Series between the Atlanta Braves and the Houston Astros. In a more recent outing, he teamed up with Chip Caray for a game featuring the St. Louis Cardinals against the Chicago Cubs, broadcast on the Cardinals’ regional sports network feed.

In addition to the Yankees-Brewers matchup, ESPN will also be showcasing the defending World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, as they face off against the Detroit Tigers at 7 p.m. EST on March 27. The game will be called by ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball” crew, consisting of Karl Ravech, Eduardo Pérez, David Cone, and Buster Olney.
