Erewhon, the upscale West Coast grocery store known for its luxury shopping experience, was recently found to have a roach infestation at its Santa Monica location. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health discovered a roach in the store, prompting Erewhon’s corporate office to issue an apology for the lapse in their standards. An employee revealed that two cockroaches were found in the area where coffees and juices, including expensive smoothies like Hailey Bieber’s favorite, are prepared.
The health department’s inspection report classified the infestation as a “major” violation, leading to the closure of part of the store and the identification of certain restaurant seats as “high risk.” Erewhon voluntarily closed the affected area on April 10 but planned to reopen it later that same day.
Erewhon, with all its store locations situated in California, has become well-known for its luxurious grocery offerings and sought-after collaborative smoothies. Despite its popularity, the recent roach incident has raised concerns about the store’s cleanliness and food safety practices.
