A male individual in his late twenties is currently being held in custody following a series of unsettling incidents in north Dublin. Authorities, known as Gardaí, responded to reports of a “serious incident” in Stoneybatter on a Sunday afternoon. Irish Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan characterized the event as a “random attack”. The victims, ranging in age from their mid-20s to mid-40s, were targeted at various locations, including Oxmantown Road and Niall Street. They were promptly transported to a medical facility for treatment, with two individuals sustaining severe yet non-life-threatening injuries and the third sustaining less severe injuries. According to reports from the Irish broadcaster RTÉ News, the injuries inflicted were of a “slashing” nature.
Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin expressed shock at the attacks and extended well wishes for a speedy recovery to the victims. He commended the swift response of both the Gardaí and emergency services. Law enforcement officers underscored the gravity of the situation by deploying a substantial number of personnel, including both uniformed and armed units, to address the incident. The suspect was swiftly apprehended near the scene, and authorities proceeded to conduct technical examinations at multiple locations within the vicinity.
