Earthquake Strikes Westlake Village, Ca., Causing Chaos in Major City

A significant earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale shook Southern California on Sunday afternoon near Los Angeles. The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the quake occurred at around 1 p.m. PT, originating 7 miles from Westlake Village, located west of Los Angeles, with a depth of approximately 7 miles. Several aftershocks followed the initial tremor.

The earthquake, dated March 9, 2025, affected Westlake Village, California, causing minor shaking that reached as far as Palmdale to the east and Huntington Beach to the south, as indicated by the agency’s ShakeMap.

Residents in the Los Angeles area felt the impact of the earthquake on March 9, 2025. Fortunately, there is no threat of a tsunami associated with this seismic event, according to the U.S. Tsunami Warning Center.
