Driver Charged in Fatal NYC Crash Involving Mother’s Death

Police were present at the site of a tragic crash in Brooklyn, New York, where a mother and her two children lost their lives. The incident occurred on Saturday. A woman now faces a series of charges after colliding with the family while they were out for a walk. New York City Mayor Eric Adams referred to it as a “tragic accident of a Shakespearean proportion.”

Miriam Yarimi was charged with multiple offenses shortly after the crash, including three counts each of criminal negligent homicide, manslaughter, and assault in the second degree, along with other charges. It was revealed that Yarimi was driving with a suspended license, and further accusations pointed to speeding and failure to yield at a red light that led to the collision with another vehicle and the tragic pedestrian accident.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch addressed reporters at the scene, emphasizing the devastating impact of the incident on the neighborhood and the family involved. She described the loss of a mother and her two young children, with another child fighting for survival, as a horrific tragedy caused by an unqualified driver.

The collision occurred when Yarimi’s Audi hit a Toyota around 1 p.m., resulting in minor injuries to both drivers and additional occupants in the Toyota. Yarimi had to be rescued from her overturned vehicle. The crash led to the Audi striking the pedestrians in the crosswalk, resulting in the deaths of the 35-year-old woman and her 6- and 8-year-old daughters. A 4-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Mayor Adams expressed deep sorrow over the loss, highlighting the impact on both the city and the close-knit community affected by the tragedy. He extended sympathy to the families involved and the community at large in the wake of the devastating incident.
