Dominik Paris Reigns Victorious in Thrilling World Cup SuperG Showdown!

KVITFJELL, Norway (AP) — Dominik Paris, the Italian skiing sensation, secured his second World Cup race win in three days on Sunday. Paris emerged as the standout racer in a super-G race that featured tight margins and a course shortened due to fog on the mountain. This victory marked Paris’s second triumph of the weekend, following his downhill win on Friday.

In Sunday’s race, Paris showed his prowess by finishing 0.38 seconds faster than James Crawford, the reigning 2023 world champion from Canada. The top 25 racers were all within one second of Crawford, emphasizing the level of competition in the event. Paris’s impressive performance left him well ahead of the competition, with a lead of 0.47 seconds over the third-place finisher, Miha Hrobat.

Despite Marco Odermatt’s fourth-place finish, he had already secured the season-long super-G title earlier in the week after his closest rival, Mattia Casse, sustained an injury during a training run for the downhill event.

Paris, known for his success on the Norwegian slopes, particularly at Kvitfjell where he has clinched six of his 24 career World Cup victories, showcased his dominance once again. His previous achievements at this venue include a weekend double win in downhill and super-G in 2019, as well as a downhill victory in March 2022.

Odermatt collected 50 race points on Sunday, solidifying his unbeatable lead of 210 points in the super-G standings ahead of the final race on March 23 in Sun Valley, Idaho. This victory also guarantees Odermatt his third consecutive super-G title.

With just six races remaining, Odermatt has secured his fourth consecutive overall World Cup title, holding a commanding 570-point lead over Henrik Kristoffersen. Kristoffersen, who does not compete in downhill or super-G events, will aim to close the gap next weekend during the giant slalom and slalom races at Hafjell, Norway.
