Dolly Parton’s Secret to Dollywood’s Perpetual Improvement!

Dolly Parton realized her dream of creating a theme park in East Tennessee, using her star power to bring jobs, fun, and lasting memories to her hometown. As Dollywood marks its 40th anniversary, Parton expressed her joy at the park’s success, saying it keeps getting better with time.

The 40th season of Dollywood kicked off on March 14, attracting excited fans from far and wide eager to experience the park and catch a glimpse of Dolly herself. The large crowd on opening day surprised park employees, drawing comparisons to spring break attendance numbers. Reports estimate around 25,000 visitors were in attendance.

Parton shared her thoughts on Dollywood’s growth, her perfect day at the park, and her hopes for the future during an interview with Knox News. Special events, shows, new food offerings, and a highly anticipated attraction set for 2026 are in store for the anniversary season.

Although she doesn’t ride the park’s roller coasters to protect her wigs, Parton enjoys overseeing the park before opening and checking on new developments. She dreams of one day closing the park for a private party with her family and friends but jokes that such an event is currently out of her budget.

Since its inception in 1986, Dollywood has expanded to include resorts, a waterpark, and other attractions, contributing to the growth of Pigeon Forge as a popular family vacation destination. Parton is proud to be part of the community’s development and views Dollywood as a shining star in the region.

Looking ahead, Parton envisions continued growth and innovation for Dollywood in the next 40 years. With a dedicated team of dreamers and doers led by President Eugene Naughton, she aims for lasting contributions that will endure beyond a season or two.

“A significant aspect of this success lies in attentively listening to the needs and desires of guests, staying abreast of theme park industry trends, and fostering innovation,” the entrepreneur stated. However, another key to Dollywood’s success for the next 40 years is good old-fashioned “Southern hospitality.”

“The people in this region are truly exceptional individuals. They are kind-hearted and welcoming. Their warmth and sincerity shine through when they greet guests at the park, creating a genuinely welcoming atmosphere,” Parton remarked. “We deeply value and cherish our visitors. They are the ones who will spread the word and return time and again. It is essential that every interaction they have becomes a memorable experience worth reliving.”

Though Parton mentioned the possibility of remaining involved with Dollywood for the next four decades, she envisions the park flourishing even without her as its visionary leader. “Even in my absence, Dollywood will continue to thrive and evolve. We will adapt and expand in alignment with the desires of our guests,” she expressed.

“We will continue to progress alongside our patrons, attentively listening and observing to understand their preferences and evolve accordingly,” she added.
