Disney’s Startling Decision Regarding the Closed Star Wars Hotel

The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser was not just any ordinary hotel. It offered a unique two-night experience that could be likened to a traditional cruise. Guests who checked in were fully immersed in an elaborate story that unfolded over the course of their stay. This highly anticipated 100-room hotel finally opened its doors in March of 2022 after numerous delays.

However, in a surprising turn of events, Disney announced in May 2023 that the Starcruiser would embark on its final “voyage” at the end of September. While the Galactic Starcruiser received much praise for its innovative storytelling and immersive experience, it was not without its share of criticism, particularly regarding its steep pricing structure.

Guests who had the opportunity to experience the Galactic Starcruiser were essentially part of a narrative that played out during their two-night stay. Rates for a two-person “cabin” on this extraordinary vessel started at nearly $5,000, while a four-person cabin commanded a price of $6,000, as previously reported by FOX Business.

In addition to luxurious accommodations, the rate also included top-notch entertainment, delectable meals, and an exclusive “excursion” to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Following the announcement of the hotel’s closure, many devoted Star Wars fans held out hope that the iconic building would be repurposed as an attraction in some manner.

However, it was revealed that the building will undergo a transformation into office space for Disney’s esteemed “Imagineering” department. During a candid interview with the travel website The Points Guy in June 2023, Josh D’Amaro, the chairman of Disney Experiences, hinted that “something will happen” with the structure but remained tight-lipped about the specifics.

Fast forward to January 2024, a permit for “general construction” at the site of the former hotel was filed by Disney, signaling further developments on the horizon. Disney enthusiasts eagerly await news on the fate of this beloved Star Wars landmark.
