Discover The Ultimate Greek Yogurt Brand for Your Daily Delight!

Ashia Aubourg praises Greek yogurt as an essential kitchen ingredient with versatile uses. It is perfect for breakfast when paired with fresh berries, granola, and honey in a parfait. At dinner, it can be used in marinades to tenderize meats like chicken or lamb, and also works well as a spread or dip. Its high protein content makes it a popular item in grocery carts every week.

The Greek yogurt section in stores is expanding rapidly, offering a variety of options to choose from. To help navigate through the choices, Ashia tested eight different tubs of Greek yogurt and identified one standout brand.

Ashia focused on major retailers’ options to ensure accessibility, including popular brands from large grocery chains like Walmart and Target, as well as generic options like Whole Foods’ 365. Plain flavors were chosen for a fair comparison based on taste and texture.

Testing criteria included taste and consistency, with a preference for mild, subtly tart flavors and slightly thick, smooth textures. The yogurt brands were scooped into tasting bowls and assessed in small batches to maintain objectivity.

Ranking the brands based on personal preference, Wallaby Greek Yogurt ranked 8th due to its grainy texture and strong tart aftertaste. Trader Joe’s Greek Yogurt placed 7th for its overpowering tanginess and lacking creaminess. Siggi’s, although technically skyr (a type of Icelandic yogurt), secured 6th place for its creamy and silky consistency, suitable as a base for various dishes.

If you’re looking for a delicious treat, consider a parfait or fruit smoothie. To balance out the tart aftertaste, I suggest pairing it with something sweet like agave or ripe berries. Here is a ranking of various Greek yogurts:

5th Place: Nounos Greek Yogurt
Nounos Greek Yogurt has a thick consistency reminiscent of whipped cream cheese. While it leans towards the savory side, it is ideal as a base for dips.

4th Place: Fage Greek Yogurt
Fage Greek Yogurt is ultra-thick and offers a decadent taste, perfect for those who enjoy rich, milky flavors. However, it may be too chunky for those who prefer a looser texture.

3rd Place: Chobani Greek Yogurt
Chobani Greek Yogurt has a classic texture and flavor with a mild taste and subtle citrusy notes. It is creamy and easy to spoon up, with a slight graininess.

2nd Place: Whole Foods 365 Greek Yogurt
Surprisingly, Whole Foods 365 Greek Yogurt has an ultra-creamy and smooth consistency, similar in taste to Stonyfield. It is easy to scoop and has a rich flavor profile.

1st Place Winner: Stonyfield Greek Yogurt
Stonyfield Greek Yogurt stands out with its smooth, velvety texture and fresh, milky base. It offers bright, subtly tart, and floral notes, making it a versatile ingredient for various dishes.
