Discover the Enchanting World of Fawn and Fox Books, Oklahoma’s Pop-Up Bookstore!

What sets your independent bookstore apart from others? Operating as a pop-up establishment allows us to bring our bookstore to different locations based on community needs. We are committed to serving rural Oklahoma by providing access to books and actively giving back to the community. In addition to managing the bookstore, I dedicate my time as the chairperson of the Scholastic Book Fair, volunteering extensively at schools to ensure the success of the program and contributing to various community initiatives.

Which section of your store is your favorite? Our pop-up store is creatively constructed using wooden crates that can be stacked, giving it a traditional bookstore ambiance. Customers frequently comment on the aesthetically pleasing layout that draws them in. The presence of the wooden crates and the lingering scent of books contribute to a cozy and inviting atmosphere within our booth.

What book do you most enjoy recommending to customers and why? One of my go-to recommendations is the “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series by Sarah J. Maas. I find Maas to be a master world-builder, and those who have read this series have consistently enjoyed it.

Fawn and Fox Books is a small pop-up bookstore dedicated to community engagement in Oklahoma.

Which book do you believe deserves more recognition and why? “Commanding Flame and Shield” by S.J. Barnett is a book that I believe should receive more attention. It’s a personal favorite of mine, offering a captivating fantasy narrative set in a richly developed world centered around angels, demons, magic, and past lives. The story focuses on a 500-year-old female warrior and her relationship with a young warrior in need of training, with a touch of romance woven in.

Why is supporting local, independent bookstores significant? Independent bookstores play a crucial role in giving back to the community, whether through direct involvement in community initiatives or contributing to local economies through taxes. These establishments serve as spaces where individuals from all walks of life can gather, feel safe, and share their love for literature. In today’s digital age, there is a growing desire for meaningful experiences, and local bookstores offer a sense of connection that is often lacking in the virtual world. The joy of discussing beloved books with others and the sense of togetherness that comes from supporting local businesses are experiences that many, especially millennials, seek out.

Could you share some upcoming programs or partnerships Fawn and Fox Books will be involved in this quarter? We are excited to announce that we will be popping up at Oklahoma Street Coffee in Mcloud, OK on Dec. 28 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
