About the Sleep Study
In collaboration with The National Sleep Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing sleep quality and overall well-being, IKEA conducted a study titled Sleep Matters: An Illuminating Report on Sleep. This study involved over 2,000 U.S. adults who were surveyed about their sleep patterns, health, and creativity. The findings revealed that most individuals do not meet the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep per night, with several factors hindering their rest. Common obstacles include the absence of relaxing bedtime routines, high levels of stress, and lack of time.

According to the report, a majority of Americans (86%) are willing to make sacrifices to improve their sleep quality. Furthermore, they spend more than 30 minutes each day worrying about their sleep. Overcoming these challenges is feasible, as suggested by the survey, through strategies like maintaining cooler room temperatures (around 60 to 67 degrees), investing in a quality mattress, and ensuring a dark sleeping environment.

How Layering in the Bedroom Enhances Sleep
Based on their research, IKEA anticipates that implementing bedroom layers will aid customers in achieving better sleep by addressing the key attributes of a sleep-conducive bedroom: coolness, comfort, and darkness. Here are some tips from Stark on layering the bedroom for improved sleep quality.

Bedding Layers
While it may seem straightforward, paying attention to your bedding layers and selecting cooling fabrics can significantly impact your sleep comfort.“Making your bed is akin to assembling a layered cake—adding elements until everything harmonizes perfectly,” explains Stark. “Your bedroom should serve as a sanctuary, and the textiles you choose for your bedding contribute to comfort, warmth, and personal flair. Experiment with various materials like linen, cotton, and velvet to introduce texture.”

When layering your bedding for comfort and temperature regulation, Stark recommends focusing on these essentials:Commence with the mattress protector and fitted sheet.Opt for a flat sheet (a subject of much discussion).Choose between a duvet cover or comforter, and utilize duvet inserts (based on the season and room temperature).Include a throw blanket or an extra layer during colder periods.Complete the look with throw pillows to achieve a curated appearance.
