Discover Bryan Norcross’s Insights on March Area to Watch!

MIAMI – The internet was abuzz on Monday as the National Hurricane Center (NHC) identified an area in the Atlantic Ocean to monitor, more than two months ahead of the official start of hurricane season. FOX Weather Hurricane Specialist Bryan Norcross suggested that the NHC’s advisory was prompted by the system’s tropical-like appearance observed through satellite imagery.

“The NHC highlighted this area due to its resemblance to a potential tropical system yesterday,” Norcross stated on Tuesday morning. The NHC pinpointed a non-tropical low-pressure system located northeast of the northern Leeward Islands, generating gale-force winds amidst disorganized showers and thunderstorms.

By Tuesday, unfavorable conditions prevented any further development, with strong wind shear dismantling any potential formation of a tropical system. Although uncommon, the formation of a named storm in March has occurred in the past. The recent image displays details of a low-pressure system in the Atlantic on March 17, 2025, with minimal chances of evolving into a significant storm.

Norcross mentioned the historical context of a March storm in 1908 that intensified in the same region before heading towards the Caribbean. However, he noted that the current system faced colder waters and hostile upper-level winds, diminishing its likelihood of progression. The NHC’s alert serves as a reminder to stay prepared for the upcoming hurricane season, commencing on June 1.
