Devastating Tornado Strikes Mississippi Town Again 2 Years Later!

“Twister Strikes Again: Rolling Fork, Mississippi Faces Severe Tornado Threat Once More”

A devastating EF-4 tornado tore through Rolling Fork, Mississippi on March 24, 2023, as part of a widespread twister outbreak spanning across the state and into Alabama. Tragically, more than a dozen lives were lost in the town. On Sunday, nearly two years later, the Sharkey County Emergency Management Director, Frank Eason, found himself in the midst of another twister as it touched down. This time, only one home was reported damaged – Eason’s own.

According to Natalie Perkins, the deputy director of Sharkey County Emergency Management, Eason was attending a memorial event marking the two-year anniversary of the 2023 tornado at a church in Rolling Fork when the new twister struck. Eyewitness footage captured a menacing funnel cloud forming in the sky above Rolling Fork.

Perkins explained that Eason bravely attempted to reach his home while observing the tornado approaching from afar, traversing through farm fields between state highways 14 and 16. The twister caused damage to Eason’s residence, including the removal of the carport roof and tearing off a wall of a metal outbuilding. Fortunately, Eason’s wife, who was inside the house at the time, escaped unharmed.

As of now, there have been no further reports of damage except for trees and power lines along Highway 16. The National Weather Service office in Jackson is currently surveying the affected area following reports of the tornado.

This latest incident occurred almost two years to the day since Rolling Fork was struck by the EF-4 tornado in 2023, boasting wind speeds of up to 195 mph – the most powerful tornado to hit the state since 2011. The devastation from the 2023 twister left hundreds of homes and businesses destroyed in Rolling Fork and nearby Silver City, with additional damages to hundreds more properties. The death toll reached nearly two dozen across Mississippi and Alabama from the storms, with reports of 20 tornadoes across both states that day, as cited by NASA’s Earth Observatory.
