Nashville police reported that a man is on the run after reportedly fatally stabbing his estranged wife outside the elementary school where she worked. Niurka Alfonso-Acevedo, 52, was attacked on Monday morning outside Chadwell Elementary as she arrived for her custodian shift, stated the Metro Nashville Police Department. The incident occurred before the start of the school day, with detectives suspecting her estranged husband, Candido Raul Rubio-Perez, 54, of lying in wait for her in the parking lot. After the attack, Rubio-Perez fled the scene. An arrest warrant for criminal homicide has been issued against him.
A school staff member discovered Alfonso-Acevedo, who had been employed at the school since October, lying in the parking lot and alerted authorities. Metro Nashville Public Schools expressed condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and the Chadwell Elementary community during this difficult time. The school district assured that there is no ongoing threat to the safety of students or staff.
Rubio-Perez is currently sought for criminal homicide. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered, according to police.
