A design brand renowned for its California cool has made a bold entrance into New York City by revamping a downtown loft. Lawson-Fenning, founded by Glenn Lawson and Grant Fenning in the late nineties, initially established its presence on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. The duo ventured out East to Manhattan, taking over a loft above their friend Danny Kaplan’s showroom. With the help of interior designer Josh Greene, the raw loft was transformed into a warm and inviting flagship space. The showroom was divided into sections with walnut-paneled walls, maintaining the loft’s original industrial features while infusing it with a residential feel.
Inspired by California’s natural beauty and mid-century modern design, the space showcases a curated selection of furniture, accessories, and artworks. The showroom offers an expanded range of fabrics and finishes, including pieces from the LF Collection and exclusive works from artists like Devin Wilde and Canoa Lab. The goal was to create a retail experience that celebrates the in-person connection with clients, emphasizing the importance of the physical store over online noise.
With rooms divided by walnut-paneled walls, the showroom highlights a mix of vintage and contemporary pieces that blend seamlessly together. From the Chiselhurst bed to the Ojai lounge chair, every item is thoughtfully curated to create a cohesive and inviting environment. The space also features a stylish eat-in kitchen designed as a bar, a tonal pink bedroom, and various vignettes that showcase the brand’s design philosophy.
Lawson-Fenning’s New York showroom encapsulates the essence of their brand, offering clients a unique and immersive shopping experience that celebrates artistry, craftsmanship, and collaboration.
“Having the same color in a room can create a sense of spaciousness,” explained Greene. “And there’s nothing quite as elegant as a bedroom designed with a single tone.” Of course, you don’t have to simply take Greene’s word for it — feel free to drop by and see the magic for yourself.
