On Sunday night, a Delta Airlines plane’s left wing made contact with the runway during a go-around at LaGuardia Airport. The incident occurred as the flight, traveling from Jacksonville, Fla., was attempting to land. The pilot initiated the go-around following an “unstable approach” around 10:10 p.m., as confirmed by the Federal Aviation Administration.
During a go-around, the pilot temporarily halts the landing approach to reposition the aircraft for another attempt at landing. While executing the maneuver, the left wing of the Delta Airlines plane struck the runway. Fortunately, all 80 passengers onboard disembarked safely, and no injuries were reported. The aircraft remained grounded at LaGuardia until the following day.
Delta Airlines acknowledged the incident, stating that the Endeavor Air flight crew followed standard procedures to conduct a safe go-around. The airline expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to customers. Notably, this flight was operated by Endeavor, the same regional carrier involved in a recent incident in Toronto where a plane caught fire and flipped during landing.
The FAA has announced an investigation into the incident to determine the root cause of the wing’s contact with the runway.
