Deadly Floods Strike Texas Hill Country, 13 Lives Lost!

Devastating floods hit Texas’ Hill Country on Friday, resulting in at least 13 reported fatalities and water rescues along the Guadalupe River, according to officials. The Kerr County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the deaths during a news briefing, with Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick stating that the number of casualties is expected to increase as the situation is ongoing and evolving. The Guadalupe River rose rapidly by 26 feet within 45 minutes, causing destructive flooding that claimed lives and property. Various units, including swimmers, drones, and helicopters, are assisting with search and rescue operations on the ground.

Flash flood emergencies were declared in five West Texas counties as severe rain and flooding persist in the Hill Country. Up to 11 inches of rain fell in several counties, leading to dangerous conditions. At Camp Mystic, where around 750 children were attending a summer camp, approximately 20 children were unaccounted for following the floods. The camp, without power, water, or Wi-Fi, described the flooding as catastrophic, and authorities are working tirelessly to locate and ensure the safety of those missing.

Local and regional emergency service organizations are conducting water rescues along the Guadalupe River in Kerr County, while the city of Kerrville emphasized ongoing search and recovery efforts as water levels recede. Gov. Greg Abbott assured that the state is providing necessary resources to affected areas, urging residents to follow guidance from officials and avoid flooded areas.

Several individuals are missing from a Texas summer camp due to deadly flooding, officials report, as a record number of travelers are anticipated during the July 4 holiday week, including both citizens by birth or through naturalization in the United States.
