FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Forward Matt Duchene has signed a new four-year contract with the Dallas Stars, valued at $18 million. General manager Jim Nill confirmed the agreement on Thursday. Duchene’s annual cap hit will be $4.5 million until the end of the 2028-29 season.
“We are excited to welcome Matt back to our team,” Nill stated. “Having led our team in scoring last season, he has been instrumental in strengthening our forward unit and providing valuable leadership both on and off the ice. His seamless integration with the team right from the beginning has been remarkable, and we are eager to work together towards our common goal of winning a championship for Dallas.”
Duchene, who recorded 82 points in 82 games last season, played a key role in the Stars’ journey to the Western Conference final, where they were ultimately defeated by Edmonton after his one goal and five assists in 16 playoff games. At 34 years old, Duchene is entering his 17th NHL season, having previously played for Colorado, Columbus, Ottawa, and Nashville since his debut in 2009.
