Concerns are growing as tens of millions of Americans in the Midwest to the Southeast brace for another potentially severe weather week. The U.S. could face a multiday severe weather outbreak, following a deadly event last week as spring’s active severe weather season begins in March.

Forecasters will be monitoring the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms midweek and again heading into the weekend. An arson investigation is ongoing after brush fires on Long Island, New York, injured firefighters and consumed hundreds of acres in Suffolk County. The fires, now named the Westhampton Pines Fire, were fueled by low humidity and gusty winds.

In Hawaii, a remarkable video captured the eruption of Kilauea volcano, showing hot gases and lava forming a “lavanado.” Other interesting stories include a magnitude 4.1 earthquake in Los Angeles, updates on the National Hurricane Center’s forecast cone, and the emergence of buzzing cicadas across multiple states this spring.
