“It was quite uncomfortable for them all to be seated next to Donald Trump,” Lysic remarked. “Considering the history between them.” The seemingly amicable interactions between Trump and Obama garnered attention after the two found themselves side by side at a state funeral.
At one moment, Vice President Kamala Harris glanced back to see Trump and Obama engaged in a friendly conversation before turning back to face the front with a stern expression. “I couldn’t tell if the funeral music was for Carter or for her. Kamala gave that look I give when someone behind me in the movie theater won’t stop talking,” she commented.
Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, appeared to ignore Trump and Obama as the outgoing Vice President displayed discomfort at their presidential banter. “She didn’t seem pleased to be seated so close to Donald Trump,” the comedian observed. “She spent the remainder of the day flipping through the funeral program as if searching for 44 electoral votes within.”
Trump and Obama were surrounded by a host of other prominent figures including former President George W. Bush, former Vice President Mike Pence, former President Bill Clinton, former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as well as President Biden and Vice President Harris.
During his campaign, Obama strongly criticized Trump, labeling him a threat to U.S. democracy and a manifestation of “our worst impulses unleashed,” among other condemnations.
