Pete Crow-Armstrong continues to impress with his breakout season gaining momentum daily. The Chicago Cubs’ third-year standout smashed his 24th and 25th home runs of the year in an 8-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday. By hitting his 25th homer, Crow-Armstrong made history as only the third player in MLB history to achieve 25 home runs and 25 stolen bases before the All-Star break, joining Bobby Bonds and Eric Davis in this elite club.
At 23 years old, Crow-Armstrong reached this milestone in just 92 games. Davis accomplished the feat in 69 games back in 1987, while Bonds did it in 91 games in 1973. Notably, Alfonso Soriano also achieved 25-25 in 91 games in 2002. Shohei Ohtani nearly reached 25-25 by the All-Star break with 26 homers but fell short with 23 stolen bases.
In Thursday’s game, Crow-Armstrong blasted a two-run homer off Chris Paddack in the third inning before adding another solo shot in the seventh off Anthony Misiewicz. This marked Crow-Armstrong’s fifth multi-homer game of the season, a significant improvement over the 10 homers he hit last year.
With a double in the ninth inning, Crow-Armstrong’s impressive performance included a 3-for-4 display with two homers and three RBIs. Currently boasting a .271/.309/.560 batting line, he has amassed 25 homers, 67 RBIs, and 27 steals. Crow-Armstrong’s standout stats place him tied for sixth in MLB for homers, seventh for RBIs, and third for stolen bases.
Originally the New York Mets’ first-round pick in the 2020 draft, Crow-Armstrong was traded to the Cubs in 2021 for Javier Baez and Trevor Williams. Fans have elected Crow-Armstrong to start in his first MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday, underscoring his remarkable season.
