Costco Cards Banned by TSA at Airport Security, Shocking Americans!

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has clarified that a Costco membership card cannot be used as a valid form of identification at airport security checkpoints. In a recent Facebook post, the TSA emphasized that while they appreciate Costco hotdogs and rotisserie chickens like everyone else, a Costco card does not meet the requirements for a REAL ID.

Since the U.S. began requiring REAL ID driver’s licenses for domestic flights on May 7, travelers must ensure they have proper identification. Along with REAL IDs, travelers can use passports or other federally-approved forms of identification, such as Department of Defense-issued IDs, but not a Costco card.

The TSA reiterated that Department of Defense IDs for active and retired military members are still accepted at TSA checkpoints, even after the REAL ID implementation. REAL IDs have been available for years, with enhanced federal standards, following recommendations from the 9/11 Commission report.

As the deadline approached, DMV centers experienced long lines in April and early May as many people waited until the last minute to obtain their REAL IDs. There was some confusion regarding acceptable forms of identification, such as passports, birth certificates, or Social Security cards, to secure a REAL ID.
