Reality TV stars seek a mysterious presidential pardon. The incarcerated reality television couple renowned for the TV show “Chrisley Knows Best” are set to pursue clemency from President Donald Trump following their convictions in a deceitful scheme to defraud banks out of millions, as confirmed by their attorney on Friday. Todd and Julie Chrisley, the couple in question, were found guilty in November 2022 subsequent to a federal trial held in Atlanta. Todd Chrisley was handed a 12-year sentence, while Julie Chrisley was sentenced to seven years behind bars. The duo was implicated in a plot to defraud Atlanta-area banks of more than $30 million through bogus loans. Additionally, their accountant faced conviction on fraud and tax charges.
The legal representative for the Chrisleys, Jay Surgent, revealed in a telephone conversation, “They believe that the president will give serious consideration to pardoning both Julie and Todd Chrisley due to the unjust treatment they endured within the criminal justice system.” Surgent further stated that the plea for a pardon will assert that their constitutional rights were violated during a warehouse search conducted without a warrant, among other issues. The judge, based on procedural errors committed by the defense attorneys during the trial, declined to exclude said evidence. Surgent mentioned that the formal request for a pardon is anticipated to be submitted to Trump’s legal team within the next two to four months.
The White House did not provide an immediate response to inquiries regarding the proposed pardon request on Friday night. The Chrisley couple’s USA Network television series, which showcased the affluent southern family, premiered in 2014 and aired for a duration of 10 seasons. Furthermore, their offspring, Savannah and Chase Chrisley, starred in their own spinoff series titled “Growing Up Chrisley,” which aired on the USA Network for three seasons.
Surgent revealed that Todd and Julie Chrisley are ardent supporters of Trump, with Savannah Chrisley even delivering a speech at the 2024 Republican National Convention held in Milwaukee. During her address, she disclosed her parents’ prison identification numbers and alleged that Todd and Julie Chrisley were victims of persecution by corrupt prosecutors. “Due to our public standing and conservative values, they falsely accused my parents of fraud, while in reality, we were victims of a deceitful business partner,” proclaimed Savannah Chrisley on stage, asserting that the said partner had been granted immunity in the case.
According to federal prosecutors, the nefarious plot to defraud Atlanta-area banks was an ongoing scheme that transpired before Todd and Julie Chrisley attained fame as reality TV personalities. Collaborating with a former business associate, the couple allegedly submitted fabricated bank statements, audit reports, and financial statements to secure millions in loans. Following the acquisition of funds, the Chrisleys purportedly indulged in lavish expenditures on luxury vehicles, high-end fashion, real estate, and travel, utilizing new fraudulent loans to repay older debts.
