Chilling Forecast Brace for -40° as Year’s Coldest Temps Hit!

Monday is forecasted to be the coldest day of the season so far for Dallas, with temperatures peaking just a few degrees above freezing. Similarly, Chicago is bracing for its coldest day of the year, with highs expected to reach around 10 degrees. The East Coast and Southeast regions will not be spared from the chill either, as cold air is set to sweep through these areas on Monday. Northern New England is likely to experience high temperatures in the single digits and teens, while the mid-Atlantic to much of the Southeast can expect temperatures in the 30s and 40s.

Tuesday could see temperatures plummet even further, particularly in the Eastern and Southern regions. The cold snap might also give rise to wintry precipitation in the South early next week, though the specific areas impacted remain uncertain at this point.

The onset of cold weather coincides with the divisional round of the NFL playoffs, adding another layer of challenge for both players and fans. The Houston Texans and the Kansas City Chiefs are set to face off in Kansas City, Missouri, on Saturday, with temperatures hovering in the 20s during the mid-afternoon kickoff. However, the wind chill is expected to drop to the low teens, posing risks of frostbite and hypothermia to those exposed in the open-air stadium for extended periods. Last year’s game in Kansas City, played in frigid conditions with wind chills exceeding 20 below zero, resulted in numerous cases of hypothermia and hospitalizations.

Sunday’s match between the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park, New York, is also poised to be a chilling affair, with temperatures starting in the upper teens for the early evening kickoff and steadily decreasing. Throughout the game, wind chills are projected to dip into the single digits, adding to the bone-chilling conditions.

As the week progresses, the cold air is expected to creep into Washington, DC, on Inauguration Day for President-elect Donald Trump. Temperatures are forecasted to be 15 degrees below the normal range, with highs only reaching the upper 20s. This is anticipated to be the coldest Inauguration Day since former President Barack Obama’s first inauguration in 2009, when temperatures peaked at 30 degrees.
