A Camp Hill resident found themselves embroiled in a troubling situation when a local man, identified as 51-year-old Jason Smith, was charged with home improvement fraud. The charge stemmed from his failure to replace the homeowner’s heat pump despite having accepted a deposit for the job.
Lower Allen Township Police Department officials were alerted to the alleged fraudulent activity on November 19, 2024, when the victim lodged a complaint. Upon examination of the case, authorities were presented with a contract dated back to October 2022. In this contract, it was documented that Smith had agreed to undertake the replacement of the homeowner’s heat pump. The victim, in good faith, issued a check amounting to $5,500 as a deposit for the project.
However, to the victim’s dismay, Smith reportedly cashed the check but failed to honor his commitment by completing the task as agreed. Despite multiple attempts by the victim to establish communication with Smith regarding the status of the project, the accused allegedly evaded all contact.
Subsequently, a warrant was issued to apprehend Smith, leading to his arrest on December 31, 2024. The unfolding events surrounding this case are being closely monitored as more details become available, and viewers are encouraged to stay tuned to abc27 News for updates.
