A man expressing anger towards pharmacies is accused of fatally shooting a Walgreens employee in California. Narciso Gallardo Fernandez was apprehended in the store’s parking lot in Madera following a shooting incident. The victim, Erick Velazquez, was tragically killed during the attack. Fernandez was arrested by the Madera Police Department shortly after the shooting.
The incident occurred close to the store’s closing time, prompting individuals to seek refuge within the store, with one employee hiding in the bathroom. Two other employees managed to escape as Fernandez reportedly fired shots at them. Despite the tragic outcome, no further injuries were reported. Security footage from the store revealed Fernandez brandishing a firearm and ultimately destroying the camera.
Fernandez was found reloading his weapon near his vehicle in the parking lot, indicating a potential desire to harm more people. He was apprehended peacefully by responding officers, averting any additional violence. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, with authorities investigating Fernandez’s grievances towards pharmacies as a possible factor.
Erick Velazquez, the victim, was described as a respected member of the community, leaving behind a wife and two young children.
