According to the New York Times; The famous director's manager John Taylor announced the sad news. The cause of Davies' death was not disclosed.

Following the death of Terence Davies, the British Film Institute said, "No one has ever made films like Davies', which, starting from a subjective past, float on waves of contemplation and observation."

Terence Davies was best known as the writer and director of autobiographical films such as 'Distant Voices', 'Still Lives', 'The Long Day Closes' and the collage film 'Of Time and the City', as well as literary adaptations such as 'The House of Mirth'.
