Breanna Stewart’s Shocking Decision Resigns with New York Liberty!

The New York Liberty announced on Saturday that Breanna Stewart has re-signed with the team. This move comes as no surprise following her instrumental role in leading the franchise to its first WNBA championship last season. Stewart, a three-time league champion with her first two titles coming in Seattle, has been named WNBA MVP twice and Finals MVP twice.
New York GM Jonathan Kolb expressed his enthusiasm for retaining Stewart, stating, “Bringing Stewie back to the Liberty was our top priority this offseason. Her impact both on and off the court is immeasurable. She is not only one of the best and most accomplished players in the world, but also a leader whose relentless drive sets the standard for our team in New York.”
During her two seasons with the Liberty, Stewart has averaged 21.8 points and 8.9 rebounds, along with 3.7 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.4 blocks. The 30-year-old forward made the move to New York in 2023 to be closer to her hometown of Syracuse, New York, after spending the first seven years of her career with the Seattle Storm.
Stewart recently underwent arthroscopic surgery on her right meniscus and is expected to make a full recovery in time for the upcoming training camp. In the offseason, she competed in the 3-on-3 league Unrivaled, which she co-founded with Napheesa Collier, averaging 19.1 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 3.1 assists, although her team fell short of the playoffs.
With their entire starting lineup returning from last season’s championship victory over Minnesota, the Liberty are looking to defend their title, having also acquired guard Natasha Cloud in a trade.
