A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday in Texas when a woman was struck and killed while trying to rescue her dog along a highway, as reported by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were called to the scene at around 1 a.m. following reports of a pedestrian on southbound I-35 at Royal Lane. According to officials, the woman was walking her dog when the animal darted into traffic lanes. In a desperate attempt to save her pet, the woman rushed into oncoming traffic, resulting in both her and the dog being fatally struck. The vehicle involved in the accident stopped and is cooperating with the investigation. The woman, identified as 35-year-old Melanie Rachelle Dunahue, was named in the medical examiner’s report. The southbound lanes of the interstate were temporarily closed after the incident but reopened by the morning rush hour, as reported by Dallas ABC affiliate WFAA.
