“49ers Plan to Retain Brandon Aiyuk Despite Trade Rumors”
The San Francisco 49ers have made trades involving key receivers in the past, such as Deebo Samuel during the 2025 NFL offseason. However, it seems that Brandon Aiyuk is not on the same path. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 49ers are not planning to trade Aiyuk before Tuesday, when he is set to receive a $22.85 million roster bonus. After this payment, it is expected that the team will keep the 27-year-old receiver for the upcoming 2025 season.
Aiyuk has been the center of trade speculations since his holdout from the 49ers’ camp in the 2024 NFL offseason. Following his impressive 2023 season, where he recorded 75 catches for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns along with earning an All-Pro second team selection, Aiyuk was seeking a long-term contract.
Despite missing the entire preseason due to his holdout, Aiyuk and the team managed to reach an agreement on a four-year, $120 million deal on August 29, just before the start of the 2024 regular season. Aiyuk faced challenges during the season, playing only seven games and making 25 catches for 374 yards without any touchdowns before sustaining season-ending ACL and MCL injuries in Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The timeline for Aiyuk’s return to play in the 2025 season remains uncertain, with Schefter suggesting on his podcast that he may be ready by midseason. Amidst ongoing trade rumors, it appears that the 49ers are leaning towards retaining Aiyuk as a crucial part of their team.
