The National Women’s Soccer League’s expansion team in Boston has revealed their new name: Boston Legacy FC. The team, previously known as BOS Nation, decided to rebrand after facing criticism for their initial name reveal and marketing campaign. The decision to change the team name came after engaging with fans, stakeholders, and conducting surveys and analysis.
The team’s controlling owner, Jennifer Epstein, emphasized that the name change is just the beginning of their journey. They aim to embody the values of competition, passion, and pride that define the city of Boston, while also paying homage to the trailblazers who supported women’s professional soccer in the past.
The selection of the new name was influenced by fan feedback and advice from women’s sports experts, including former U.S. women’s national team player Kristine Lilly. The team is now looking ahead to unveiling a crest and additional branding in the coming months as they prepare to join the NWSL alongside an expansion team in Denver, bringing the league’s total number of teams to 16 next year.
