In the photos shared on social media, it was seen that many seats had collapsed, upper cabinets were hanging out and severely damaged.

Dozens of people were reportedly taken to hospitals after the incident on the plane, which was on its way to Montevideo, Uruguay.

Some passengers suffered neck fractures and hit their heads during the turbulence.

Flight UX045 requested an emergency landing at Natal Airport in northeastern Brazil.

In a statement, it was stated that they are "the airport that can provide the fastest service to passengers with medical needs", "The plane landed normally and the reported minor injuries are being treated. A plane will leave Madrid this afternoon to pick up the passengers and continue the journey to Uruguay."

Scientists say the clear air turbulence, invisible on pilots' radars, is worsening due to the climate crisis.
