Black Town Mobilizes Armed Protection Against Neo-Nazi Threats!

In Lincoln Heights, Ohio, Jay has been diligently patrolling neighborhood bus stops each morning before sunrise for the past month to ensure the safety of children getting to school. Describing the community as close-knit, Jay explains that all the kids recognize and trust them. However, to outsiders, Jay’s identity remains anonymous, as he wears a face covering and tactical gear to protect himself from potential harassment by hate groups.

Part of the Lincoln Heights Safety and Watch program, Jay is one of the armed volunteers who actively monitor the area following a disturbing incident on Feb. 7. On that day, a neo-Nazi group displaying swastika flags and hurling racial slurs staged a demonstration near the community, prompting a response from law enforcement agencies. Despite no arrests being made and a lack of identification from the neo-Nazi group members, an investigation is underway to determine if criminal charges are warranted.

Following the incident, residents expressed dissatisfaction with law enforcement’s response, leading Daronce Daniels and others from the Heights Movement to establish the safety and watch program. The initiative, which permits armed patrols by volunteers in tactical gear, emerged from the existing community empowerment organization to fill the void felt by many in the neighborhood.

Despite supporting law enforcement, community members like Eric Ruffin, a local business owner, have doubts about their ability to provide adequate protection in the face of hate groups. Ruffin appreciates the efforts of the safety and watch program but lamentably acknowledges the necessity of such measures in their community.

In America in 2025, Ruffin expressed concern about encountering individuals displaying symbols of hate, such as swastikas, while law enforcement stood by. He emphasized the importance of not succumbing to the tactics of hate groups and maintaining a sense of unity. The village of Lincoln Heights, established in the early 20th century as a haven for Black families, has faced challenges since the disbandment of its police department in 2014. In response, concerned residents have formed a safety and watch program to protect their community. Volunteers, inspired by the legacy of their ancestors, actively patrol the neighborhood, creating a sense of security and unity among residents. These volunteers have been instrumental in maintaining a safe environment, especially during a recent neo-Nazi rally. In light of these events, the Hamilton County Sheriff has called for legislation to prevent individuals from wearing masks while openly carrying weapons for intimidation purposes. While acknowledging the concerns of Lincoln Heights residents, she also emphasized the need to avoid escalating potentially dangerous situations. The sheriff highlighted the importance of addressing legislative inaction that contributes to the proliferation of armed confrontations.
