Beat the Heat 4 Tips for a Restful Summer Sleep!

Sleeping in the hot summer months can be challenging for some individuals. It is important for the body to cool down in order to achieve optimal rest. So, how can one ensure a good night’s sleep during periods of extreme heat? Dr. Michael Gradisar, a sleep expert at the sleep app Sleep Cycle in Australia, shared some advice with Fox News Digital. While some people recommend mouth taping for better sleep, experts raise safety concerns about this practice. The body naturally releases heat from the hands, feet, and face when preparing for sleep. However, in a warm environment, the body may struggle to effectively shed heat, leading to difficulties falling and staying asleep. Sleeping in a room that is too warm can disrupt the body’s ability to regulate heat at night, resulting in fragmented sleep and grogginess in the morning. To enhance sleep quality in hot weather, Gradisar suggested strategies such as regulating room temperature, using fans or air conditioning, taking cool showers or baths before bed, and choosing breathable bedding. Additionally, he advised against drinking alcohol before bedtime as it can disrupt sleep patterns. By following these recommendations, individuals can improve their chances of getting a good night’s sleep even in sweltering summer temperatures.
