When Angela Prichard arrived at her workplace, Mississippi Ridge Kennels in Bellevue, Iowa, on the morning of October 8, 2022, she was caught off guard by the presence of her estranged husband, Christopher Prichard, who was armed with a shotgun. What should have been a typical morning quickly turned tragic as Christopher fatally shot Angela in the chest. Special Agent Dustin Henningsen of the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation oversaw the case and shared details with CBS News correspondent Jonathan Vigliotti in an interview for an upcoming episode of “48 Hours.” Henningsen mentioned that dogs barking in the middle of the night signaled Christopher’s arrival at the kennels, which occurred around 4 a.m. Angela’s sister, Wendy Budde, revealed that Christopher had accessed the kennels by knowing the security code. Despite Angela’s swift call to 911 urging Christopher to leave, he shot her, and she identified him as the perpetrator before succumbing to her injuries. Prior to the tragic incident, Angela had obtained a restraining order against Christopher due to ongoing harassment and threats. However, law enforcement had issued an arrest warrant for him for violating the order just days before the murder. Christopher was eventually captured after a 16-hour manhunt and later convicted of first-degree murder and robbery, receiving a life sentence without parole in March 2024. Angela’s family’s lawsuit against the City of Bellevue and three police officers for negligence in apprehending Christopher was dismissed in January 2025, prompting an appeal from the family.
