Bad Bunny Overtakes Taylor Swift in Epic Battle for No. 1!

“Debí Tirar Más Fotos” by Bad Bunny rises to the top spot on the charts in an impressive victory, marking the reggaeton sensation’s fourth album to achieve this milestone. The intense competition saw the 17-track album claim the No. 1 position by a mere 1,000 units, narrowly surpassing Taylor Swift’s “Lover (Live From Paris)” vinyl reissue, which Taylor Swift made available for purchase on her webstore on January 7th.

During the tracking week ending on January 16th, “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” garnered 203,500 units, while Swift’s “Lover: Live From Paris” made a strong comeback with 202,500 units solely from album sales following its vinyl reissue (with 161,000 units sold for the week) and digital download debut.

Bad Bunny had initially debuted at No. 2 in the previous week, with only five days of tracking due to the Billboard’s methodology of counting units from Friday through Thursday. “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” was released on a Sunday, January 5th, which contributed to its rapid ascent to the top fueled by a robust streaming performance of 264 million streams in its first full tracking week. The album was offered in Spanish as a standard LP and digital download, with traditional album sales accounting for nearly 8,000 units.

In contrast, Swift’s album was exclusively available for purchase as a vinyl LP or digital download, resulting in swift sell-outs of the vinyl copies. This surge in demand propelled “Lover (Live From Paris)” to surpass its previous peak of No. 58 on the Billboard 200 chart, underscoring its remarkable success. The limited availability of the album in February 2023 led to resales at over $1,000 in second-hand retail outlets and online stores.

Earning the title of the top-selling album of the week, Swift’s “Lover (Live From Paris)” also claims the distinction of being the highest-charting live album on the Billboard 200 in over five years, marking a significant achievement. This accolade is further highlighted by the album’s exceptional performance as the largest sales week for a live album on vinyl since sales tracking began in 1991 by Luminate. The last live album to chart as high was Lionel Richie’s “Hello From Las Vegas” released in 2019.

Apart from the successes of Bad Bunny and Taylor Swift, this week’s Top 10 chart sees a familiar lineup with no new entries. SZA’s “SOS” maintains its position at No. 3, followed by Kendrick Lamar’s “GNX” at No. 4. Lil Baby’s “Wham” slides to No. 5 after a previous week at No. 1, while Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet” secures the No. 6 spot. Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard and Soft
