Avs Star Cale Makar Shatters Records with 100 Goals Milestone!

DENVER (AP) — Cale Makar is known for deflecting shots and downplaying milestones associated with him. The Colorado Avalanche’s dynamic defenseman prefers to avoid the spotlight, even though he often finds himself in it. Makar reached a significant milestone on Saturday, scoring his 100th career goal in his 362nd NHL game. This achievement made him the fifth-fastest defenseman since 1943-44 to reach that mark, following Hall of Famers Bobby Orr, Paul Coffey, Ray Bourque, and Denis Potvin. Despite the accomplishment, Makar humbly remarked, “I guess just another thing along the way. I don’t really look at milestones like that. I wish it would come and go.”

His teammates, however, are quick to praise the 26-year-old defenseman from Calgary, Alberta, who leads all defensemen in points this season with 15 goals and 37 assists. Forward Mikko Rantanen highlighted Makar’s exceptional talent, calling him “one of the best ‘D’ ever to play the game.” Makar’s career total of 101 goals and 287 assists averages to 1.07 points per game, putting him in elite company alongside legends like Orr and Coffey.

Coach Jared Bednar described Makar as one of the best defensemen in NHL history, emphasizing his impact on the ice. Makar’s offensive prowess and leadership have earned him the respect of his teammates, like fellow defenseman Keaton Middleton, who values Makar’s guidance in generating offense. Middleton looks up to Makar’s skills and knowledge, aiming to apply them to his game.

Makar showcased his abilities by scoring his 100th career goal during a power play in a recent game against Dallas. Bednar praised Makar’s consistency in hitting milestones swiftly and acknowledged his impressive achievements over the years. As Makar prepares for the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off tournament with Team Canada, he continues to make history for the Avalanche, including setting a team record with his fifth 50-point season.

In an impressive display of skill and consistency, a defenseman has put up a remarkable 13-game point streak to kick off the season. This feat now stands as the second longest in history for a blue liner, with only the legendary Bobby Orr surpassing it with a 15-game streak back in the 1973-74 season.

Speaking about this remarkable performance, Middleton, visibly impressed, expressed his delight in watching such a stellar display on the ice. “It’s fun to watch,” Middleton remarked, struggling to find adequate words to capture the brilliance of the player’s performance. “I don’t know what (other) words I can use to describe him. I guess I’ve got to get a thesaurus.”

This extraordinary achievement by the defenseman has not only captivated fans but also raised the bar for excellence in the league. The player’s ability to make an impact in every game has solidified their reputation as a force to be reckoned with on the ice.
