The title reads: “Unstoppable Underdogs Claw Their Way to Victory”
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Johni Broome recorded 16 points and 13 rebounds as No. 1 Auburn battled through a challenging offensive performance to secure a 67-60 victory over Arkansas on Wednesday night. The win came on the heels of their triumph over Alabama, the other top team in the polls, showcasing Auburn’s resilience to avoid a second consecutive home loss. Chad Baker-Mazara contributed 15 points for the Tigers, while Chaney Johnson added 14.
Adou Thiero led Arkansas with 16 points, supported by Johnell Davis who scored 14. The game saw both teams struggling from beyond the arc, collectively connecting on only seven of their 43 attempts.
Arkansas displayed flashes of offensive potency early on but couldn’t sustain their momentum. Conversely, Auburn, known for its proficiency in shooting from long range, struggled with 3-point shooting, ball security, and rim protection. Despite the initial hiccups, the Tigers managed to tighten up their game down the stretch.
In a crucial moment, after Arkansas momentarily took the lead with 3:06 remaining, Auburn responded with a decisive 6-0 run to secure the win. The Tigers capitalized on second-chance opportunities, amassing 16 points off 13 offensive rebounds, a stark contrast to Arkansas’ limited offensive rebounding and resulting three second-chance points.
Looking ahead, Arkansas will host No. 15 Missouri on Saturday, while Auburn will welcome Georgia to their court.
