Apple Rushes to Fix Mysterious iPhone Dictation Glitch

In response to a peculiar bug affecting the dictation feature on certain iPhones, Apple has swiftly taken action to rectify the issue. The bug, which caused the word “Trump” to be suggested momentarily when words containing an R consonant, such as “racist,” were spoken, sparked controversy among iPhone users. Videos circulating on social media this week demonstrated how the glitch operated, with the word “Trump” briefly appearing in the text window before being swiftly replaced by the intended word.
Apple acknowledged the problem, stating, “We are aware of an issue with the speech recognition model that powers Dictation and we are rolling out a fix today.” The company explained that the speech recognition models behind the voice-to-text feature may inadvertently display words with phonetic similarities, leading to the erroneous suggestions of “Trump” and other words with an “r” consonant triggering the bug. Despite attempts by The Associated Press to replicate the glitch on Wednesday, it was unsuccessful in doing so.
Meanwhile, Apple made headlines this week with plans to invest over $500 billion and hire 20,000 employees in the United States over the next four years, along with constructing a new factory in Texas. These moves come in the midst of threats by former President Donald Trump to impose tariffs on imports. Additionally, Apple shareholders rejected a proposal urging the company to align with Trump’s initiatives to eliminate corporate programs aimed at increasing workforce diversity.
