“Instead of faux finishes, we now see an abundance of limewash plaster, Venetian plaster, and hand-painted scenic landscapes in areas like dining rooms and powder rooms,” she points out. “Wood stains remain popular, but in subtler shades like walnut and white oak.”
Nozawa notes a growing interest in visually dynamic countertops, expressing enthusiasm for this trend. “While I appreciate the elegance of white marble with striking veins, I’ve always had a soft spot for speckled granite,” she adds.
Is the ‘90s Style Making a Full Comeback in Interiors?

The extent of the ’90s revival in interior design remains subjective. Papachristidis believes that contemporary interiors embrace a mix of influences, including nods to the ’90s. “Design today allows for a fusion of styles, resembling the fluidity of the fashion world,” he suggests.

Currently, Nozawa concurs that ’90s interior design is not completely making a full comeback, however, certain elements from that era are undeniably resurfacing. She suggests that the design community is still not quite prepared for the widespread presence of dark granite or deeper red woods once again. It appears that, unlike the midcentury style, only fragments and aspects of ’90s home decor are making a return. Essentially, whether the ’90s aesthetic is officially “back” or not, if you have an affinity for that era, we encourage you to embrace it wholeheartedly in your own living space.
