Algerian boxer Imane Khelif remains unfazed by President Donald Trump’s views on gender in sports and is determined to defend her gold medal at the upcoming Los Angeles Olympics. Khelif, who faced controversy over gender eligibility at the Paris Olympics, addressed Trump’s policies in an interview with British broadcaster ITV. She clarified that as she is not transgender, the president’s decisions do not concern or intimidate her.
Khelif confidently stated her goal of winning a second gold medal at the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles. Trump’s recent executive orders targeting transgender athletes have not deterred Khelif, despite the president referring to her and fellow boxer Lin Yu-ting as men. The International Olympic Committee has consistently supported both athletes, affirming their identities as women.
Khelif emphasized that she identifies as a woman and has competed in various tournaments as such, including the Tokyo Olympics and World Championships. She rejected claims of being transgender and emphasized that her success has sparked campaigns against her. Despite facing scrutiny and speculation about her gender, Khelif remains steadfast in her identity and ambitions as a female boxer.
