ALDI has unveiled an ambitious plan for growth, with the grocery chain gearing up for its largest expansion year yet in 2025. The company intends to open more than 225 new locations across the United States, marking a significant milestone in its expansion strategy. A key component of this initiative involves converting existing Southeastern Grocers locations into ALDI stores, with approximately 100 of the planned new openings set to come from these conversions.
In addition to the Southeastern Grocers conversions, ALDI is eyeing expansion opportunities in the Midwest and Northeast regions, as well as bolstering its presence in the Western part of the country. The company is targeting a total of 220 Southeastern Grocers locations to be converted by 2027, highlighting the scope of its growth projections in the coming years.
Notably, ALDI recently announced the sale of 170 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores that are not included in the conversion plan. These locations, acquired by ALDI last year with the intention of being transformed into ALDI stores, are now being divested as part of strategic realignment efforts. ALDI’s CEO, Jason Hart, emphasized the company’s commitment to honoring its promise of sustaining a significant number of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets while simultaneously driving ALDI’s expansion agenda.
Market Force Information, a leading market research firm specializing in customer feedback, released a report in 2024 that ranked ALDI as the grocery store offering the best value for money among major retailers in the U.S. The comprehensive survey covered 45 grocery chains nationwide, including warehouse clubs like Costco and Sam’s Club, as well as retail giants such as Target and Walmart.
Looking ahead, ALDI has set an ambitious target to open 800 new locations by the year 2028, underscoring its commitment to continued growth and market expansion. The company’s strategic focus on customer value, service excellence, and operational efficiency positions it as a formidable player in the competitive grocery retail landscape.
