Discount grocery chain Aldi has recently acquired a few Big Lots stores in three states, following Big Lots’ filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and announcement of store closures. Aldi joins other companies like Tractor Supply, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, and Burlington in purchasing leases from closed Big Lots locations. Variety Wholesalers took over more than 200 stores following the bankruptcy, with a plan to gradually reopen them starting in April. Aldi purchased a small number of locations, including those in Denham Springs, Louisiana; Taylor, Michigan; and Nacogdoches, Texas, according to bankruptcy documents. Other retailers like Ocean State Job Lot, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, Burlington, and Tractor Supply have also acquired Big Lots locations in various states.
