Firefighter Josh Pate was on duty in Gordo, Alabama when a tornado hit his home, where his wife and children were praying for safety during the terrifying storm. The tornado, rated as an EF-2 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale with peak wind speeds of 80 mph, was part of a severe weather outbreak in the Deep South that caused multiple tornadoes.
Pate and his son were working with Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue Service while their family was in the tornado’s path. In an interview with FOX Weather Correspondent Katie Byrne, Pate shared that his wife and children had huddled in a closet as the tornado approached. Despite the destruction to their home, the closet remained untouched, and his family emerged unharmed.
Pate expressed gratitude for their safety, attributing it to faith and divine protection. Other residents, like Laura Lee Lann, also shared stories of survival and recovery after the tornado hit Gordo. Lann and her husband narrowly escaped a tornado while on the road, emphasizing that material possessions can be replaced but lives cannot.
