Multiple fires have ravaged a significant portion of the greater Los Angeles area following the start of the Palisades Fire on Tuesday, creating a scene of devastation reminiscent of a war zone. Driven by strong winds, these fires have scorched over 36,000 acres, equivalent to approximately 56 square miles, forcing more than 150,000 residents to evacuate their homes, according to officials. Tragically, the fires have claimed the lives of at least 10 individuals and destroyed over 10,000 homes, businesses, and other structures.
As of Friday afternoon, Cal Fire reported six active fires, with only the Lidia Fire reaching 75% containment. Four other fires remained at containment levels below 40%. The Sunset Fire and Woodley Fires, which ignited on Wednesday, have been successfully contained. AccuWeather’s chief meteorologist, Jonathan Porter, described the situation as firestorms fueled by hurricane-force winds tearing through neighborhoods filled with high-value properties. The aftermath has left behind heart-wrenching devastation and an immense economic toll.
