Actor Jim Belushi Reflects on Challenges of Saturday Night Live

During the SNL50: The Anniversary Special, 70-year-old comedian Jim Belushi expressed his gratitude for his time on Saturday Night Live from 1983 to 1985 and being part of the Second City improv group. Belushi credited both institutions for molding him into the actor he is today, stating that they were tougher challenges than even divorce.

Belushi’s third wife, Jennifer Sloan, initially filed for divorce on the 36th anniversary of his brother John Belushi’s death. However, the divorce was later dismissed, only for Jim to file for divorce in August 2021 citing irreconcilable differences.

Reflecting on his tumultuous time on SNL, Belushi shared how being fired and rehired from the show was a turning point for him. He acknowledged the show as the hardest thing he had ever done, even compared to divorce, and emphasized the humility and growth he experienced during that time.

Belushi also shared insights into his brother John’s SNL experience and how he learned valuable lessons from his own time on the show. Despite the challenges, Belushi expressed gratitude for the opportunities that both SNL and Second City provided him in his career.
