CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico – Three individuals were apprehended on Monday in connection with the tragic demise of a Mexican migration officer. The officer was discovered earlier in the day lifeless, as reported by state security and migration authorities.
The passing of the migration officer represents a distressing instance of lethal violence targeting officers, occurring just weeks prior to an anticipated crackdown on immigration as U.S. President-elect Donald Trump prepares to assume office.
Authorities revealed that the migration officer had sustained a head injury and was found devoid of vital signs. His body displayed evident indications of violence, according to an official statement released by public security officials in northern Chihuahua state.
Rescue personnel were seen transporting the deceased agent of Mexico’s National Institute of Migration (INM) subsequent to the detention of several suspects involved in the alleged killing on the outskirts of Ciudad Juarez on December 30, 2024.
State investigators confirmed that two Venezuelan men were taken into custody in connection with the unfortunate incident. The INM, in a separate statement, disclosed that a third suspect, identified as a Colombian national, had also been apprehended.
The fatal attack on the migration officer transpired at a checkpoint just south of Ciudad Juarez, situated across the border from El Paso, Texas, when the officer requested identification documents from an unspecified number of foreign nationals, as per the INM statement.
