President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday that he has directed the U.S. Defense Department to maintain its heightened efforts in delivering weapons to Ukraine following Russia’s recent attack on Christmas Day. The attack targeted several Ukrainian cities and the country’s energy infrastructure.
Biden strongly condemned the attack, stating, “The purpose of this egregious assault was to disrupt the Ukrainian people’s access to essential utilities such as heat and electricity in the midst of winter, and to endanger the stability of their energy grid.”
In response to the escalating situation, President-elect Donald Trump, who will assume office on January 20, has been closely monitoring the developments. Ukraine reported that Russia carried out the attack using cruise and ballistic missiles, as well as drones, resulting in significant damage to the energy system and infrastructure of various cities.
Since Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the United States has pledged a total of $175 billion in aid to support Ukraine during these challenging times.
